The Philadelphia Phillies have traded Marlon Byrd to the Cincinnati Reds.

Byrd will earn $8 million next season on the final year of a two-year deal that includes an $8 million team option for 2016. Philadelphia sent cash to Cincinnati as part of the trade.

The Phillies received minor league pitcher Ben Lively in return.

The Seattle Mariners have acquired Seth Smith from the San Diego Padres in exchange for right-handed reliever Brandon Maurer.

Smith is expected to join Justin Ruggiano in a right-field platoon for the Mariners.

"We were in search of adding another outfielder. We've got a player that's a professional hitter, a guy that we think is going to give us really good [at-bats] especially against right-handed pitching," Jack Zduriencik said.

The Seattle Mariners and San Diego Padres are close to a trade involving Seth Smith, according to multiple reports.

San Diego is looking for bullpen depth, which is an area in which Seattle can help.

Smith has two years and $12.75 million remaining on a contract extension he signed last July with the Padres.

The Baltimore Orioles need help in the outfield and have been linked to Colby Rasmus and Nick Swisher.

Nelson Cruz and Nick Markakis both departed via free agency.

Rasmus is a free agent and could replace Markakis.

The Cleveland Indians are reportedly shopping Swisher following the acquistion of Brandon Moss from the Oakland Athletics.

They have discussed Seth Smith and are still considering the San Diego Padres outfielder.

San Diego has been very active this offseason and they have a surplus of outfielders.

The New York Yankees have traded Shawn Kelley to the San Diego Padres in exchange for right-hander Johnny Barbato.

Barbato, 22, was a sixth-round selection in the 2010 First-Year Player Draft and pitched last season at Double-A San Antonio.

Kelley, who turns 31 in April, was 3-6 with a 4.53 ERA in a career-high 59 appearances this past season for New York.

His positionial flexibility also makes him a fit for a long list of trades.

The Toronto Blue Jays are looking to add a closer via trade as the offseason continues.

They will look at free agent relievers if a trade can't be worked out, but those options are decreasing.

The Baltimore Orioles are still interested in potentially acquiring Seth Smith or Will Venable from the San Diego Padres, according to sources.

Baltimore will continue to survey all options as San Diego's asking price for the pair of outfielders remains high.

The Padres have a surplus of outfielders after adding Matt Kemp, Wil Myers and Justin Upton.
